Howard’s BBQ first opened its doors in 1949 at Leopard and Port. Two years later, the restaurant moved to Staples and Blucher, where we operated for 30 years. The current location at 1002 Antelope St., in downtown Corpus Christi, has been in operation since 1979.

Jim Mathews, the current operating owner, learned the BBQ business under the watchful eye of Norman Howard, the original owner and has been an important member of the Howard’s team since 1979.

After Norman’s retirement, Jim and his family have carried on the Howard’s tradition of serving the best BBQ in South Texas. Tom Messner, Jim’s son-in-law, oversees Howard’s catering for all types and sizes of events, and his wife GiGi makes delicious carrot cake served daily.
